Topic: United Way: Taking Care of What Matters
Most in our Community

United Way of Roanoke Valley

This will be an informal holiday buffet luncheon with a focus on giving back to the community. Attendees are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to RAM House.

RAM provides support and serves as an advocate for the homeless and poor. RAM helps people in need through a variety of programs, including:
· Emergency financial assistance
· Employment counseling and placement.
· Hot Midday meals served 365 days a year
· RAM House, a day shelter for the homeless
RAM's goal is to empower people to move from dependency to independence. RAM focuses on community needs, putting aside all differences of race or creed.

Hot Topics in Human Resources

Hot Topics in Human Resources will cover three different areas of interest to human resource professionals: Strategic HR, HR Practice and Employee Benefits.Concurrent sessions will provide essential training focused on helping human resource professionals with both strategic and daily implementation issues. Continuing Education units will be awarded for those interested in recertification credit for PHR and SPHR. Sponsored by RVSHRM, Mary Baldwin College and Virginia Western Community College.

The fee for the conference is $45.00 for registrations received on or before July 17, 2003, $49.00 for registrations after July 17, 2003. This includes continuing education units, continental breadfast and lunch. Note: Payment of registration fees is required prior to program attendance. Registration will be processed when payment is received.

Building the Workforce of the Future--
Business Education Partnerships

Beth Pinson, chair of the Workforce Readiness Committee, will present information developed by the national SHRM on educators and business. Ms. Pinson will also moderate a panel of representatives from secondary education discussing business/education partnerships. Information will be available on various workforce education programs and opportunities at the secondary education level.

HIPPA: Are You Ready for Implementation?

HIPPA implementation is upon us along with many changes in how we handle employee information and insurance benefits. The March 25, 2003 RVSHRM luncheon will feature an interactive panel presentation, with representation from the legal, health benefits and medical community to provide additional background and address questions or issues you may have with the implementation in your organization. After an overview of relevant issues, panel members will seek questions from the membership on issues of interest.
