Electronic Employment Processes at Carilion Health System

Presenters:
Phil Peters, Director of Human Resources Compliance
Rhonda Young, Manager of Employment

This Carilion team will present on the automated HR achievements implemented at Carilion Health System Human Resources. "HR-e360" automated processes are specific to departments such as Employment, Development and Compliance. “HR-e360” began as an e-theory which has resulted in an e-solution.
Due to the implementation of “HR-e360," Carilion Health System achieved significant process improvement and reduced post-to-offer time by 20 days in 2002. The automated processes include reduction in manual processes and data duplication between multiple systems, hard copy forms and duplicate applications; imaging; and replacing 42 Excel spreadsheets and reports with automated reports that are provided by the e-system.

Please make reservations by utilizing the event reservation form or e-mailing Joyce Kessinger at jkessinger@boxley.com. Please include "RVSHRM RSVP November" in the subject line. Registration Deadline is Wednesday, January 18th.

President’s Message
January 2006

I trust this message will find you and yours happy, in good health and ready for the New Year!

First, let me thank Sarah for her excellent leadership during the past year. While working hard to see that we achieved all of our goals, she made it fun and enjoyable! We will surely miss her and wish her the best that life has to offer.

Second, thank you to the 2005 Board. The diligence of this group to see that you, our members, attended educational and stimulating meetings, as well as, fun networking opportunities, was phenomenal! Already plans are in action for this year. I know you will not be disappointed.

Having said that, let me continue Sarah’s message that we all need to be involved to make our chapter the best in the state. Please take a minute to review the list of committees and make a decision to really participate this year. Remember, you really do get back what you put into this or any organization.

A special thanks to Johna Campbell, Joyce Kessinger and Donna Tatum and all those that assisted these ladies and, of course, those that contributed items for our Silent Auction during our December social! It was fun and we had a lot of great “stuff” to auction off!

OK, mark those calendars for the fourth Tuesday and plan to join us for lunch at the Hotel Roanoke each month. Let’s get ready for an exciting new year!

RVSHRM has joined the City of Roanoke, and Roanoke Area Job Opportunities Convention (RAJOC) as a co-sponsor of the 8th Annual SWVA Regional Job Fair presented by the Roanoke Times.

This Valley Works (TVW) a component of TAP, is responsible for planning and coordinating the Job Fair and is now seeking employer/vendor participation. As the New Year Begins…..
This Life is Yours

Believe in yourself. Take the power to choose what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want to do and do it well. Take the power to love what you want in life and love it honestly. Take the power to walk in the forest and be a part of nature. Take the power to control your own life. No one else can do it for you. Nothing is too good for you. You deserve the best. Take the power to make your life healthy, exciting, worthwhile and very happy. Take the power to create your own dreams and make them come true.—Susan Polis Schutz

With another Year behind us and as a New Year begins, lets not forget those who are not home to celebrate and begin anew with their loved ones. Or, those who will never celebrate another New Year as they have given us “their” ultimate sacrifice.

Thank you, to all who attended or made possible the success of the SHRM Foundation Silent Auction and Fundraising event that was held during the December meeting at Hotel Roanoke. The event was well attended and the auction got underway with shoppers and browsers scanning the tables for bargains. The event raised $1311.00 which will help ensure our chapter obtaining Chapter Champion status for 2005.

A special “thank you” to Dan Semones for entertaining us and keeping the room “jolly” with sounds of the Holiday season.

Inflation impacts RVSHRM

The RVSHRM Board of Directors regrets to announce a price increase for the monthly lunch meetings for 2006. The Hotel Roanoke had found it necessary to increase the cost of the lunches for 2005; however, the board decided to monitor the situation and absorb the additional cost during this year before making a decision as to how much of an increase is needed.

Beginning with the January 2006 meeting members will be charged $20.00 while guests will pay $25.00 per meeting. The new rate will include parking passes for those attendees who need them and will cover any fixed costs for each meeting such as audio-visual equipment needed for the program.

Member Birthdays
See the Birthday List in the left column.

The Board thought it might be a nice idea to list member birthdays each month in the newsletter. If you see that it's a friend's birthday, feel free to send a card, make a phone call, or even bake a cake for that person! In order to start the birthday list idea, we need for all members to update their member profiles on the web site. Click here to go to the "Update Your Member Record" section of the site. Your log-in is the first initial of your first name and your whole last name. The password is rvshrm. Click "Edit My Info" and your profile will pop up. Scroll down to enter your birth month and day. And, please check the accuracy of your other information as well. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Joy Hanson, Newsletter Editor, at jhanson@rkeauthority.org or 983-9216. Thank you.
